The first iPad had a lot of skeptics; people believed that their laptops covered the same bases more than adequately. However, the actual intent of the iPad began to become clearer. As the industry caught on and Apple's accountants eagerly started rubbing their hands with glee, the other leading computer and mobile phone companies sat up and took notice. Tablets became the latest must-have. Of course, Dell is targeting to get a piece of the action. The device Dell is placing its hopes on is the Streak 7 Wi-Fi Tablet. Whether this unit makes the grade and is worth the money is what we will try to answer in this article.
It's easier to recommend a product when the company behind it has a good name - that, however, is not the case with Dell. Quality and reliability are not hallmarks of Dell's products. The company's customer service reputation is also on kind of shaky ground. Numerous customers have shared that when they made service calls after the warranty expiration date, they were billed. So, while this device is in all likelihood going to be one of the inexpensive tablets available the market, you have to take some time to think about who you will be paying that money to.
The tablet has the Android OS (this version is affectionately called Froyo), which means that it should allow you to multitask between various programs fairly easily. You should be able to listen to Mp3s, keep your GPS data up-to-date, and be notified of several things through the system's notification service without being forced to keep any specific app open and running. It gives quick and easy access to your Gmail and other e-mail apps and accounts, so you don't have to concerned about whether someone can reach you when you have your tablet with you.
A a very good feature of the Dell Streak 7 tablet compared with the initial iPad is video chat. Video chat is built-in to this Dell tablet by means of a front-facing panel cam and Qik software. The problem is , however, that you won't be able to communicate with people who don't use the same Streak 7 tablet, or something compatible. What this means is that the video chat feature is not universal in its application. The integrated On Demand service furnished by Blockbuster is a plus for this Dell tablet. Admittedly, however, Blockbuster's recent troubles certainly managed to make us think twice about its value as a recommendation.
Reviews at this point are only a handful, but it does seem that a lot of people are wary as to the reasons why this tablet was developed. The unit's functionality is terribly limited through its lack of capability to interact with other devices that aren't compatible with Streak 7. Notwithstanding, a keen desire for a tablet computer coupled with a limited budget might make this tablet a great way to familiarize yourself with the technology. Keeping in mind the earlier caveats, make sure you think about your purchase carefully prior to committing any money.
